A Brides Guide To: Saying Yes To Your Dress
Since its engagement season it only seems right to talk about the big D! The Dress! Whether you want to admit it or not, every girl dreams about the day she will try on her first wedding dress. As a former Bridal Stylist and now Wedding Coordinator I’m here to share the advice I would give my girlfriends when finding their perfect dress!
Make an Appointment
Scheduling an appointment is very important. You want to schedule your appointment as soon as you get engaged. Wedding gowns made in the Unites States take 6 to 9 months to get made since they are custom ordered for each bride, not mass produced overseas. Schedule at most 3 appointments in the same day that way you are sure to find the one and avoid some over thinking. Two rules to follow after you schedule your appointment: Come ready to find the one and Cherish the day; the day you find your dress will be remembered forever!
Leave the Entourage at Home
Bring the positive energy and leave the negative Nancy’s at home. Not every single friend or family needs to be a part of the dress hunting, leave the big reveal for wedding day. Your most important guest should be mommy dearest. Your mom has been waiting for this day just as much as you have. Let her be a part of the dress experience as much as she can and if she has an heirloom try your best to work it in. Your MOH is a must have! I mean she is your bff so who knows your style better and who has probably been hearing you talk about what you wanted since the day he popped the question. Don’t forget about your future MIL. You are marrying her son so it’s time to get on mamas good side. What a better way than through the key to every woman’s heart…shopping! Limit the remaining crowd to the gals who know you and your vision the most. Remember the experience matters!
Listen to Your Bridal Consultant
Remember this is their job. As a former Bridal Stylist at Solutions Bridal, I know firsthand the training one must go in order to know what fit, fabric, and customization works best for your body type and most of all your vision. Trust the stylist when pulling gowns. Trust me, we know from the moment we meet you what fit works best for your body type and your vision. A bridal consultant will never steer you wrong!
Most Important KNOW YOUR BUDGET
I cannot stress this enough! Being able to answer the question, “What is your ideal budget for your dress” is the most important answer in this process. It is in your best interest to be honest when deciding how much you would like to spend on the gown, accessories, and don’t forget about alterations, every girl needs them! Keep in mind most stores allow a deposit to be made and the remainders of the payment due once your dress arrives, remember you’ll have 6 to 9 months to save! Just skip a Sunday Funday here and there and you’ll be saved up in no time.
